One of the new things we implemented this school year at Oakland Middle School was to display our school-wide expectations throughout our building. We have (3) main school goals: Be Engaged, Be Prepared and Be Respectful. In each area there are different expectations that follow those main goals. Large posters were made to display our expectations in the hallways, bathrooms, auditorium, cafeteria and car rider and bus areas. This has helped both students and teachers be held accountable for their actions and always aware of what is expected of them. All expectations are written in a positive manner, which supports our overall culture of positive behavior.

Along with that, Oakland Middle School has been working on strengthening our relationships with all those connected to our students, not just those in the classrooms. For example, we wanted to celebrate our bus drivers for their hard work and time that they spend with our students. We purchased mini Nothing Bundt Cakesand delivered one to each of our bus drivers with a note expressing our gratitude for their job. We also recently printed and laminated smaller posters of the OMS Bus Expectations and delivered them to each bus driver to display on their bus. This helps ensure that both students and bus drivers realize that we expect the same positive behavior on the bus, as we did in our Oakland Middle School classrooms.
