huge shout-out to Springfield Middle School in Springfield, TN! Springfield is starting on their second year implementing RTI2-B. Springfield met over the summer to make changes to their plan based on feedback that they collected from their stakeholders the previous year. They are off to a great start, and plan to meet at least monthly this year! Great work, Springfield Middle!

RTI2-B Implementation Tips
IMPLEMENTATION TIPS
Tennessee schools are back in full swing for this school year. Schools are at various stages in implementing their RTI2-B plans. To help you along your paths to success, we wanted to pass along some general implementation tips, reminding your teams and school staff of the critical features to focus on:
  • Remember to have your expectations posted throughout the school where students and staff can easily see them.
  • Remember to teach the expectations. This is an ongoing process. Try doing a “stop-drop-and teach” lesson on the expectations once or twice each week during the months of August and September. A "stop-drop-and teach" lesson can be announced to the whole school to do simultaneously or can be something teachers build into their individual lesson plans. A setting and expectation would be randomly selected and the teacher would have to stop and re-teach that expectation and setting to the students. For example, an announcement would be made to "stop-drop-and teach being safe in the cafeteria." Each class would then stop what they were doing and have a quick lesson about what being safe looks like in the cafeteria. 
  • Praise goes a long way! Acknowledge your students’ appropriate behaviors and provide positive feedback. Pair praise with reinforcement. Remember to provide a 4:1 ratio of behavior specific praise to corrective statements.
  • Use the reinforcers your school provides. If your school has tickets, give students tickets for engaging in behaviors that meet expectations. If your school uses an online system, award your students points using the online system.
